It is a team of Korean researchers led by Professor Dong-Il Jin(Chungnam National University) and Jae-Gu Seol(mgen) that have suceeded in creating the genetically modified mini pig whose organs can be used for transplanting into human patients. This pig was born on 11 May and is growing healthily at a lab at mgen.
They inserted a somatic cell of a mini pig with FasL(Fas Ligan) to an egg of a general pig removed of its nucleus to create a clone.
And the cloned egg was inserted to a same kind of mini pig which had offered a somatic cell.
Finally the genetically modified cloned mini pig with FasL(Fas Ligan) was born, which may have a better chance of producing compatible human organs, the researchers said.
They are now examining the immune rejection response which can be triggered while genetically modified organs are used in human transplants.
Meanwhile, the bio-related companies' stock prices are soaring due to the news of a genetically modified cloned mini pig with a human immune gene.<헬스코리아뉴스>
