[SEOUL=Healthkoreanews] KFDA's stop-sale drugs notification service will be effective coming February.
Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, HIRA, has announced that it is going to provide 'DUR(Drug Utilization Review) Notification Service, starting 1 Feb, to doctors and pharmacists who check DUR real-time. The service enables them to be notified immediately when KFDA announces the change in medicine information such as safety alerts.
Though HIRA has been updating safety alerts on its website, there were a lot of cases in which medical institutions have not been able to be notified of the information, resulting continued prescription. DUR Notification Service is intended to fill the gap for IT developers and users in medical institutions.
The service was designed to immediately transfer the drug information from KFDA to users such as doctors and pharmacists.
DUR covers 99% of total medical institutions, 66, 000 of 66,703 institutions as of 23 Jan. Users can also be notified if they add real-time notification function to HIRA DUR program without installing separate additional program.
DUR program including DUR Notification service is applied to part of medical institutions and through test application it will be phased into each and every medical institution starting February.
An official from HIRA said, "we expect that DUR Notification Service will help to prevent the drug accidents for people. "
